The Day He Chose Us

2 November 2022

Backward facing Radha Krishna

Some moments arrive quietly.. without warning.. without drama.. yet they change everything.

That evening, we were returning from the market, walking along a relatively quiet road. The day felt ordinary until it wasn't. Out of nowhere, a small puppy appeared. He was chubby, tiny, and incredibly cute for his age. There was something about him that instantly caught our attention.

He walked straight toward me and stood near my feet.. not scared.. not hesitant.. almost as if he already knew us.

We stopped and tried playing with him, expecting the usual puppy energy. But he wasn't active. He barely moved. At first, we thought he might be sleepy or tired. Still, something felt unusual.

As we began to walk away, he followed again.. gently brushing against my foot. That small gesture changed everything. In that moment, I looked at him and felt it clearly.. this wasn't exhaustion. He was hurt.

Without overthinking, we brought him home.

A Late-Night Decision

At home, we offered him milk. He didn't take even a sip. Any healthy puppy would have jumped at it, but he simply sat there, weak and quiet. The worry set in immediately.

We called a vet.. at midnight.

Around 11 PM, the doctor arrived at my flat in Chouhan Town. After examining him carefully, he confirmed what we feared. The puppy had internal injuries. The doctor said something that still echoes in my mind.. if we hadn't brought him in, he likely wouldn't have survived the night.

That sentence alone told us everything we needed to know. Bringing him home wasn't a coincidence. It was necessary.

After the initial treatment, he showed slight improvement. Just enough to take a few small sips of milk. Soon after, he fell asleep.. peacefully.. as if he finally felt safe.

That Midnight Moment

Here's a glimpse of that midnight when we found him and the vet gave him his first treatment:

The Fight That Followed

The days that followed were not easy. We took him to the hospital multiple times for treatment. He was still very young, and his body had already endured too much.

During one of the procedures, the pain became unbearable for him. He cried loudly.. a sound that pierced straight through my heart. I stood there, trying to be strong, but tears rolled down silently.

Yet, through all of it, he didn't give up.

He fought.

At an age where he should have been playing, running, and discovering the world, he was battling pain and fear. And somehow.. he won.

He survived.

He earned the most precious gift of all.. life.

When Luck Looks Like a Dog

There's a saying I once heard.. "If you're really lucky, a dog will come into your life.. only if you're lucky."

We didn't go looking for a dog that day. We didn't plan for him. He appeared on that road.. fragile.. quiet.. and chose us.

We named him Jimmy.

Today, he is no longer that weak little puppy. He's full of life, love, and personality. He has become an inseparable part of our family. Our home feels warmer because of him. Our days feel fuller.

Looking back, it's impossible not to believe that some bonds are written before they happen. Jimmy didn't just enter our lives..

He chose us.

And in doing so, he gave us something priceless.. unconditional love.. quiet loyalty.. and a reminder that sometimes, the smallest souls make the biggest impact 👨‍👦‍👦🐾

Happy Moments with Jimmy

From that fragile puppy to the joyful companion he is today... here are some of our favorite moments together:

"We didn't rescue Jimmy that night. He rescued us... teaching us that love appears when you least expect it, often in the most fragile form."
